Lyaymha America Hosts First-Ever Yomari Punhi Celebration in Virginia

CHANTILLY, VA – Lyaymha America successfully hosted its inaugural Yomari Punhi celebration in Virginia, bringing together a diverse group of participants for a vibrant day of cultural education, traditions, and festivities. Held in Chantilly, the event attracted families and children, who engaged in a wide array of activities that celebrated Nepalese heritage.

Highlights of the Celebration

Kids’ Activities
The event catered to young participants with interactive and creative activities:
Children participated in Yomari-themed coloring and other cultural drawings.
A hands-on Yomari-making session was organized, with each child receiving a personalized apron on which they wrote their names while learning the traditional art of making Yomari.

Graduation Ceremony
The celebration included a special graduation ceremony for the Summer Nepal Bhasa Online Class students, honoring their achievements.Graduates were welcomed with a traditional Dhimay drum performance and awarded certificates of completion by Rajshree Shrestha, crowned Mrs. Tourism USA Universe 2024. Each student also received a “Khada” scarf from their parents as a blessing and recognition of their efforts.
Guthi President Pushkar Prajapati presented an appreciation certificate to Rajshree Shrestha for her remarkable achievement in winning the title of Mrs. Tourism USA Universe 2024.

Yomari-Making Workshop
More than 50 children participated in a workshop where they learned the process of making Yomari, a traditional Nepalese delicacy, with guidance from parents and executive members of Lyaymha America Guthi.


The workshop aimed to teach children not only the culinary process but also the cultural significance of Yomari.

Performances and Cultural Showcases
Macha Kyaba, a group of students from Lyaymha America Guthi, performed the Nepal Bhasa song “Imu Chama Lay Du”, instilling pride in their heritage.
Parents and children joined in singing a traditional Yomari Punhi theme song, creating a heartwarming moment of community bonding.
Four Macha Kyaba students also performed an energetic and captivating dance on the Yomari Punhi song, adding to the festive atmosphere.

Traditional Food and Entertainment
Attendees were treated to a traditional Samaya Baji set and freshly prepared Yomari, highlighting the rich culinary culture of Nepal.
The event concluded with a lively musical performance by the Nepal Unplugged Band, entertaining the 150 participants from the DMV area
