Invitation to talk program on Hydropower, Regional Electricity Markets and Economic Development of Nepal

Dear Friends,

We would like to invite all interested individuals to the seminar on economic development issues of Nepal. We few individuals working on to have a regular seminar series (at least once in 2 months). The objective of the seminar series is to stimulate intellectual discussions among the Nepalese diaspora on topics in relation to opportunities for and challenges to Nepal’s specific and overall socio-economic transformation. An open and interactive discussion will be encouraged during and after the Speaker’s presentation. 

The seminar is being organized on Saturday, May 27, 2017. 

Title: Hydropower, Regional Electricity Markets and Economic Development of Nepal.

Speaker’s brief bio: Dr. Govinda Timilsina is a Senior Research Economist at the Development Research Group of the World Bank, Washington, DC.  He has more than 20 years’ experience across a board range of energy and climate change economics and policies at the international level. His key expertise includes electricity economics and planning, general equilibrium and energy sector modeling, biofuels, energy efficiency, clean and renewable energy economics and policies, carbon market, UNFCC and the Paris Agreement, climate change science, impacts and mitigation and urban transportation. Prior to joining the Bank, Dr. Timilsina was a Senior Research Director at the Canadian Energy Research Institute, Calgary, Canada, where he was engaged mainly on climate change policy analysis, economic impacts assessment and electricity issues. At present, he is leading a number of studies including South Asia Regional Electricity Cooperation and Trade, modeling of carbon markets in China, sustainable urban planning in the Middle East and North Africa.
