Noted Nepali singer Shweta Punjali has lent her voice to a virtual reality video produced by United Nations on the lives and work of peacekeepers in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The 12-minute 360VR video titled “Under the Blue Helmet: Life as a UN Peacekeeper” features troops from Jordan, Nepal and Bangladesh as well as people from the DR Congo.

Starting at 4 minute 50 seconds in the video, Shweta has voiced over for Nirmala Kambang, a female solider from the Nepali Army serving in the UN mission in the DR Congo.

“I am honored and humbled to make this contribution to the work of peacekeepers, who come from around the world and work to to bring peace to people affected by war,” said Shweta.

“I am especially humbled to have given my voice to Nirmala, a mother who has left her child back home thousands of miles away in Nepal, to help children and their families who have gone through a lot. Her story shows the strength of women and mothers and the warm compassion and love they bring.”

Shweta Punjali rose to prominence with her debut album Udaan (launched in 2015) where she worked with famed Nepali composer Nhyoo Bajracharya and highly respected poet lyricist Durga Lal Shrestha.

Shweta also won the best new artist for Achammai Lagyo Malai from Udaan, and was also nominated for best music, best video (diaspora), and other awards.

Currently living in the United States of America, Shweta has also held musical performances at many places in Nepal as well as in Bangkok, Thailand, and New York and Connecticut, USA.
