Washington DC. The Nepali American Community Center (NACC) is going to celebrate this year’s colorful festival of Holi, Phagu Purni, with various activities on Sunday, March 28th at 3 p.m.
The Holi program will be celebrated both virtually and locally and will also be live from the media including Enepalese and NACC FB pages.
On the occasion of Holi, POC’s POC of NACC Dr. Madan Upreti has extended best wishes to the members of NACC and all the community members in the DC Metro area.
The NACC Cultural Committee has informed that NACC is making various preparations to celebrate the festival of colors Holi in a special way that reflects the mountains, hills and the Terai of Nepal.
On Sunday, according to the Hindu tradition, Holika Dahan will be held in the premises of NACC Building and colorful teeka will be offered by the gurus, national anthems will be performed by the children as well as Maithili, Bhojpuri and Nepali songs and dances will be performed.
Vijay Singh, former chairman of the Terai Basis’ organization ANTA, informed that the program is going to be held under the umbrella of NACC involving all Nepali castes with the active participation of Tarain Nepalis.
People of Nepali and Indian descent have been celebrating Holi in the United States every year on the day of Falgun Shukla Purnima. Earlier in the Treta era, when Hiranyakashyapu’s son Prahlada, the supreme devotee of Lord Vishnu, was about to be burnt in the fire by his own sister (Prahlad’s aunt) Holika, herself was burnt in the fire.
