Nepal has shown unprecedented national unity and true patriotism by passing the new Nissan seal and map with an overwhelming majority from the parliament on Saturday, 13 June ,2020. This is the first national unity seen in the history of Nepal in recent times. This has further strengthened Nepal’s nationality. A national consensus has been reached. It is also the result of Nepal’s 62 years of patience. Some time ago, Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of India, used threatening language to remind Nepal of the history of Tibet on this issue. There is a media war between Nepal and India over this issue. The Indian media is working hard to provoke this issue. They are using threatening language against Nepal. But Nepal left without passing anything by passing a new Nissan seal and map from the parliament today. All opposition parties have united for national unity, sovereignty and integrity of the country. Have shown strong unity.

Nepal’s current borders were determined by the Anglo-Nepalese war of 1814-16. Even though the Nepal King did not formally sign the Sugauli Treaty at that time, Nepal still considers it as its border. The treaty, drafted on December 2, 1815, was supposed to be signed by the King of Nepal within 15 days, but the King of Nepal did not. At that time, Nepal was preparing to recapture its land by attacking again after the rains increased, but due to tensions between the internal brothers, Nepal could not attack. On March 4, 1816, two employees, Guru Gajaraj Mishra and Chandra Shekhar Upadhaya, were asked to sign the Sugauli treaty. Nepal only completed the formalities. Until today, Nepal has been considering the Mahakali River as its western boundary at the same time. When India became independent from Britain in 1947. Nepal-India border remains the same till now.

In 1962, when India and China went to war, the Indian Army lost the war. At the request of the Indian government, Nepal allowed the returning Indian army to stay in the Lipulek Kalpani area for some time. However, despite the request of Nepal from the Indian Army stationed in Kalpani area. India has not agreed to remove it from there till date. Nepal gave shelter to the Indian army that lost the war according to humanitarian religion but in return India invaded Nepal’s Lipulek, Kalpani and from there to the western parts of Nepal including Limpiyadhura, Kuti and Navi.

The problem is exacerbated after China and India agreed to set up a trade gateway to Lipulek in 2015 without Nepal’s knowledge.A territory of Nepal occupied by India. At present, India is building the road to do trade with China and Mount Kailash through Lipulek. In this regard, the then Prime Minister of Nepal, Shushil Koirala, had sent diplomatic notes to both India and China in protest, but both countries ignored him. Moreover, at the time of the Corona epidemic, India was foolish enough to put the occupied land on its official map. Nepal has become more aggressive after Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the road with the army chief. India had been threatening Nepal not to talk about it and not to quarrel.

Even though India has been occupying Nepal’s land for 62 years now, Nepal has not taken any drastic step regarding the close relations between the two countries. Map submitted by Nepal to the United Nations. Taxes paid by the people of the region to the Nepal government. Census conducted by Nepal. The maps published by the British Government at different times are strong evidence of Nepal. Until 45 years ago, the land was on the official map of Nepal and the Nissan stamp. But later, due to India’s fear, intimidation and lust for power, the then rulers of Nepal removed the land from the map of Nepal. Today, the Nepali people have united to correct this mistake. This is a great pride for Nepal and also a new message for the world. The country may be small or big in size but sovereignty is equal for all.

Today is a historic day for Nepal. Nepal is feeling proud at the moment when the entire parliament has united and made the changed map a part of the constitution. For Nepal, it is also in this battle of national pride. Therefore, today will always be remembered in the history of Nepal. With 258 votes (100% of the votes present), the Constitution of Nepal has been amended. The western boundary determined by the Sugauli Treaty of 1816 BS has unanimously passed the national landmark with a map covering the entire territory east of the mouth of the Kali River.Nepal wants to resolve the issue through peaceful talks with India. Peaceful dialogue is the only solution to the problem. Not war. Love and harmony strengthen the borders of both countries.

But what Nepal needs to learn is that nationality is not limited to any caste, color or region. It is necessary to get rid of the narcissistic thinking of seeing oneself more nationalist and others less. And only then does nationalism become stronger. Mutual conflict always weakens the country. The Madhesi people cannot pass the fire test time and time again regarding nationality. Nepal’s nationality is strengthened only if Himal Pahad, Terai and Madhes are united.
