OBITUARY
Hon’ble Suresh Kiran Manandhar
Modern Poet · Senior Writer · Journalist · Language Advocate
We, at Nepa Pasa Pucha Amerikaye (NPPA), are deeply saddened by the passing of Mr. Suresh Kiran Manadhar. He passed away in Kathmandu, Nepal, on Monday, March 9, 2026, at the age of 59. He was born on Friday, October 29, 1965 in Kathmandu, Nepal. Mr. Manadhar will be remembered with respect and reverence by all who knew him.
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Hon’ble Suresh Kiran Manandhar — a distinguished member of the Language Commission of Nepal, senior Nepali writer, and one of the foremost modern poets of his generation. He departed this world following a heart attack, leaving behind an enduring legacy in Nepali literature, journalism, and cultural scholarship.
Manandhar dedicated decades of his life to journalism in both the Nepalbhasa and Nepali languages, earning widespread recognition as a voice of cultural depth and literary integrity. His contributions to Nepali letters were honoured through several prestigious awards, including the National Talent Award, the Parijat Creativity Award, and the Dharmadithya Dharmacharya Journalism Award. As an editor, he shaped the literary landscape by publishing a collection of short stories and an authoritative biographical work on the late Padmaratna Tuladhar.
Since 2014, Manandhar served as Managing Editor (Nepal) and Nepal Representative of NPPA’s Daboo Magazine, bringing to the role his rare combination of scholarly rigour and editorial vision. He curated hundreds of insightful articles from Nepal’s most established writers, significantly elevating the magazine’s quality, reach, and cultural resonance. His guidance on matters of culture, literature, and heritage enriched all who had the privilege of working alongside him.
Hon’ble Suresh Kiran Manandhar was a rare custodian of language, memory, and meaning. His absence leaves a void in our literary and journalistic community that will not easily be filled. Nepa Pasa Pucha Amerikaye extends its heartfelt condolences to his family, colleagues, and all who were touched by his life’s work.
Mr. Manandhar is survived by his wife and two sons.
Our deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences to the bereaved Manadhar family for their irreparable loss. Our prayers are with them at this tough time of grief and pray for the eternal and heavenly peace of the departed soul. He shall be remembered — in every word, in every page, in every language he loved.
Subhay,
Executive Committee
