Global Math Debate League Brings a New Dimension of Dialogue and Thinking inMathematics to Nepal

Kathmandu: In the field of education, Embark UnMath has been transforming the traditional
way of learning and teaching mathematics. By presenting complex mathematical concepts
creatively and connecting them with everyday life, the institution has now launched the Global
Math Debate League (GMDL) in Nepal for the first time; a program that unites mathematical
thinking and debate. Its primary goal is to establish mathematics as a universal language of
thought and dialogue, beyond just numbers and formulas.

The Global Math Debate League aims to turn mathematics into a medium of ideas, reasoning,
and conversation. The program encourages students to view mathematics not only as a tool for
solving problems but also as a means to express their ideas and demonstrate creativity.
Speaking about the Global Math Debate League, Divesh Bathija, co-founder of Embark
UnMath, said: “The Global Math Debate League reflects our belief that mathematics is much
more than calculations; it’s an exciting journey of logical thinking and problem-solving. This
league provides a national platform for students to experience learning beyond the boundaries
of traditional classrooms.”

This year, GMDL is engaging over 5,000 students from schools across Nepal in a three-stage
structured competition: Screening Round, Regional Selection, and National Final Round. The
competition emphasizes collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking. Through this process,
students sharpen their analytical skills, build confidence in public speaking, and gain a deeper
understanding of how mathematics applies to real-world situations.

By combining the art of mathematics and dialogue, the Global Math Debate League empowers
a new generation of leaders who can think analytically and communicate effectively. Along with
strengthening students’ academic foundations, the program celebrates mathematics as a
pathway to creativity, innovation, and leadership. As Nepal’s first initiative of its kind, GMDL is
building a national community of young debaters, thinkers, and problem-solvers, creating
individuals who see mathematics not merely as a subject, but as a way of thinking and living.
Founded in 2012, UnMath School is a pioneering educational institution that has been
redefining the way mathematics is taught in schools. Its expanded initiative, Embark UnMath,
furthers this global mission through programs such as the Global Math Debate League, Math
Marathon, and Space Math, designed to make mathematics engaging, meaningful, and
transformative for learners of all ages.
