President Donald Trump spent Saturday playing golf at his luxurious Turnberry course on Scotland’s picturesque coast, even as significant protests flared across the United Kingdom, vehemently decrying his visit.
According to Indiatimes ,Hundreds of demonstrators converged in Edinburgh, Scotland’s capital, approximately 100 miles from Trump’s golf resort. Speakers at the U.S. Consulate declared Trump “unwelcome” and criticized British Prime Minister Keir Starmer for a recent trade agreement with the U.S., seen by many as a concession to avoid American tariffs.
A diverse “Stop Trump Coalition,” comprising environmental activists, opponents of the Gaza conflict, and pro-Ukraine groups, organized demonstrations in various cities.
Despite the widespread public dissent, President Trump, accompanied by his son Eric and the U.S. ambassador, continued his golf round under tight security, which successfully kept protesters at a distance.
While Trump, whose late mother was Scottish, often expresses a feeling of home in Scotland, the weekend’s events clearly demonstrated that many Scots do not share that sentiment .
