Sabrina Shrestha (age 13) competed with her father Binam Shrestha in the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon held at Minnesota, USA on October 6th, 2024. She made history by becoming the youngest person of Nepali descent to complete a full marathon – 42.2 KM.
Sabrina has a history of running from an early age. She ran a 5K at age four and has hardly stopped since. Her running has included track and field teams and her school’s cross country running club. She enjoys the medals and after-race parties. She is also on a swim team and enjoys competing and racing in the water.
Sabrina’s father Binam said “Staying active and exercising is now becoming part of our lives, it is a lifestyle.” He continued, “I love doing these events with my girls and building memories.”
Binam Shrestha competed in the Ironman World Championship at Nice, France in 2023 and made history as the first ever athlete from Nepal to participate in the Ironman World Championship. Daughter Sabrina dreams of following in her dad’s footsteps.
The whole Shrestha family including mom Stacy, grandpa Biplap, grandma Krishna, and sister Sonia is very proud of Sabrina. She plans to continue her fitness journey and motivate others to work for new challenges.
Sabrina ran the marathon in a very commendable time of 4 hours 7 minutes. This was her first attempt at running a full length marathon.
