PRESS RELEASE : ANTA Calls for Proportional Representation of Madheshi and Janajati in Recent Ambassador Nominations!

ANTA expresses deep concern over the recent nomination of 18 ambassadors to various countries, highlighting the regrettable absence of representation from the Madheshi and Janajati communities. This exclusion not only disregards the diverse fabric of our nation but also violates the Article 282 & 283 in our constitution that mandate inclusivity and equal representation for all communities.

Constitution of Nepal Article 282: Ambassadors and special emissaries: (1) The President may, on the basis of the principle of inclusion, appoint Nepalese ambassadors, and special emissaries for any specific purposes.

Constitution of Nepal Article 283: Appointments to be made in accordance with inclusive principle: Appointments to offices of Constitutional Organs and Bodies shall be made in accordance with the inclusive principle.

The absence of Madheshi and Janajati individuals in these high-profile diplomatic roles is symptomatic of a broader, systemic issue of marginalization that the community has faced for decades. Despite the significant contributions of Madheshis and Janajatis to the socio-economic and cultural landscape of Nepal, their null representation in key government positions continues to persist, raising questions about the government’s commitment to inclusivity.

ANTA believes that such practices undermine the essence of our democracy, which is built on the pillars of diversity & equality. By neglecting to include Madheshi and Janajatis voices in these crucial roles, the government risks alienating a vital part of our population and deepening the existing divides.

We strongly urge the government to reconsider its approach and ensure that current and future appointments reflect the true diversity of our nation. It is essential that all communities, including Madheshis and Janajatis, are given equal opportunities to serve and represent Nepal on the global stage.

ANTA remains committed to advocating for a balanced and inclusive society and calls upon the government to take immediate steps to address this oversight.
