Baltimore, MD – August 4, 2024 – The Baltimore Association of Nepalese in America (BANA) organized its third health camp on Sunday, August 4th, at the BANA Community Center in Parkville. This camp provided important health services to the Nepalese community in the Baltimore area. These camps are held every two months to help improve the health and well-being of the community.
At the latest camp, 27 people received health checkups, dental care, hearing and vision screenings. The camp was staffed by 11 healthcare professionals, including doctors and nurses, 1 dentist, and 3 specialists for vision and hearing. The vision and hearing screenings were done with the help of the Lions Club of Baltimore Nepalese. Additionally, 6 BANA volunteers helped make the event run smoothly.
A special guest, Councilman Julian E. Jones Jr. from Baltimore County, also visited the health camp. He took part in the health checkup, showing his support for the community.
BANA started these health camps earlier this year, with the first one held on April 7, 2024. That event turned the BANA community center into a temporary clinic, offering diabetic tests, health education, vision and hearing tests, and CPR training. A total of 46 people received care at the first camp. The second camp, held on June 2, 2024, in partnership with the Baltimore Lions Club, served 37 people and provided CPR training to 7 participants.
BANA plans to continue these health camps every two months, but they hope to hold them monthly in the future due to growing demand. They are looking for more healthcare professionals and a sponsor to help keep this important program going.
There are more than 26,000 Nepalese-speaking people in the Baltimore area who can benefit from these services. BANA is committed to providing accessible and comprehensive healthcare to the community.
The next BANA health camp is scheduled for October 6, 2024.
