Taxi businessmen have started a movement against the government. They took to the streets to protest against the government’s decision to purchase electric taxis.

The businessmen who held a protest meeting in Kathmandu along with Tinkunema Ryal said that the decision to introduce city electric taxi to Nepal to compensate them was unacceptable. Ram Thapale, convenor of taxi businessman Self-Employment Labor Sangharsh Samiti, asked the government to speed up the process of purchasing taxis only by paying compensation of Rs 10 lakh.

In the context of Indian companies, the government has made itself a middleman by purchasing electric taxis. Organizer Thapale warned that the movement would continue until their demands were addressed.

The Sangharsh Committee has put pressure on the government to give a discount on the purchase of electric taxis. Businessmen are demanding from the government to arrange for engraved number plates with Nepali identity and to remove the hassles related to insurance.

Businessmen have also drawn the government’s attention to the need to purchase taxis on the basis of healthy competition.
