On the occasion of International Women’s Day, WIIT to honor one hundred and one women of ICT sector

On the occasion of International Women’s Day 2023, Women in Information Technology (WIIT) is organizing a program to recognize one hundred and one (101) women in the field of communication and
information technology. The organization is also going to publish a book and honor them.


Guna Keshari Pradhan, president of WIIT organization, informed about how technology can be used to
bring about gender equality in the program to be held on 8th

of March at Hotel Hyatt Place.
MP Sumana Shrestha is the keynote speaker at the conference. In the program, the former program
coordinator of Asia Pacific Telecommunity, Elisa Raj Bhandari, will give a presentation on Global
initiatives on promoting gender equality in ICT. Similarly, Director of Wireless Services Directorate,
Nepal Telecom, Minu Pradhan will present a paper on 5G technology and its potential impact on
development of truly smart society such as smart cities, smart communities, smart households towards
gender equality with 5G.

Minister of Communication and Information Technology Ms. Rekha Sharma will be present as the chief
guest in this conference. Similarly, MP Sumana Shrestha, Secretary of the Ministry of Women, Children
and Senior Citizens; Dilliram Sharma, Chairman of Nepal Telecommunication Authority Purushottam
Khanal, CEO of E-Governance Commission; Dipesh Bista, UN Women’s Anjana Vaidya, Managing
Director at Nepal Telecom; Sushil Poudel and others will be present as special guests.

Sheela Kansakar Karki, vice president of women in information technology, said that a book containing
101 women in the ICT sector will be released at this conference. According to the organization, women
who play a leading role in the field of information and communication technology will be honored in the
program by the honorable minister.

The event organized by Women in Information Technology (WIIT) is supported by Nepal Telecom in
Association with and Living with ICT as a supporting organization.

WIIT is a non-governmental organization established for the effective participation of women in the ICT
sector and to further encourage them. The organization has been conducting various workshops, seminars,
hackathons, annual publications, networking programs, digital literacy related programs for women. The
organization has conducted programs outside of Kathmandu in Pokhara and other areas. Last year, the
organization released a special annual publication (book) related to cyber security.
