Code Rush Successfully Commences the Training for ‘She Can Digital’

Kathmandu, Bagmati: Code Rush, on 27 Apr 2022, has commenced the training phase of She Can Digital, a zero-to-basics course on digital skills for young girls from low-income families of Kathmandu valley. The training program has been co-organized by Code Rush, Rural Women’s Network Nepal (RUWON), and Women’s World Wide Web (W4). She Can Digital program’s goal is to furnish, enable and encourage females to build their capacity in digitalization and implant self-confidence by providing them with various digital and interpersonal skills.

The four-month training shall engage twenty highly motivated young women aged 18 to 25 from families of low socio-economic backgrounds in Kathmandu. The participating females are high school graduates or students and bachelor’s students or graduates from public institutions. The majority of the participants are computer illiterate. That is why the training has started with a basic introduction to computers. For the duration of four months, the training shall equip the trainees with essential digital skills by introducing fundamentals of computing devices and reinforcing computer vocabulary, providing knowledge on computer hardware and software including the internet, social media, use of collaboration tools, preparing documents/ sheets/ presentations using Microsoft and Google, etc. In addition to three sessions per week, the training features assignments and knowledge assessment tests to ensure the effectiveness of the course.

The twenty participants also received a Design Thinking workshop in addition to an orientation session on Apr 15. In the design thinking workshop, the participants formed teams and performed design thinking exercises on existing problems in their communities. The participating young girls are extremely enthusiastic and hope to learn valuable digital skills for achieving their future goals.

I want to be an accountant and computer skill is very important to become an accountant. That’s why I want to learn digital skills.”, says Durga Kumari Khatri, one of the participants.

The co-organizers of She Can Digital hope that this training program can transform the lives of the participating young girls and help them advance their careers and consequently elevate their living standards.

Goma Devi Bastola, the President and Managing Director of RUWON who has been leading this program since 2017 believes that Code Rush’s technical perspective and expertise in industry mapping will help take this initiative by RUWON and W4 to the next level.
