𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐆𝐞𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐍𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 (𝐆𝐆𝐍𝐄𝐂) is preparing to participate in Pako Festa – the biggest of its kind in Australia – that will be held on 26th of February 2022 in Diversitat Community Hub in Geelong. GGNEC’s participation in PAKO Festa will represent Nepal – the country of the Mt. Everest and display Nepalese cultural diversity. Nepal is one of the richest countries with cultural diversity and has more than 125 ethnic groups, 123 dialects spoken and several religious communities.
GGNEC’s Founding President Dr Santosh Pandey says, ‘’ we invite all the multicultural community to join us at Pako wearing your ethnical dress and carrying country’s flag and national musical instruments if available, to make the event more colourful and to demonstrate unity in diversity”. Pandey also states, “Australia is a vibrant multicultural country, so we also want to learn other cultures and traditions to embrace cultural differences and help us enhance our understanding of other cultures, we exhibit our diversity/culture wherever we go, and it is the best way of learning from each other”.
GGNEC’s Vice President Mrs. Anamika Shrestha is coordinating within GGNEC members to make their presence remarkable in Pako Festa. GGNEC will be performing a cultural dance and a parade at Pako Festa. Mrs. Shrestha says, “this is the first time for GGNEC to participate in this biggest multicultural event in Australia and the only aim for GGNEC to participate in this event is to preserve and promote Nepalese culture and to learn about various different cultures around the globe.” GGNEC has been established to provide inclusive platform to the Nepalese Community members living in Greater Geelong including the Barwon South West Region. GGNEC has been promoting and maintaining Nepalese culture, traditions through promotion, encouragement, support, and facilitation of cultural events since its formation. In addition, GGNEC has been helping international students to build their resumes and providing COVID relief packages who has been impacted by Pandemic.
GGNEC is currently providing continuous support for families and community members impacted by COVID Pandemic as mental health and well-being activities, COVID safe activities- COVID awareness campaigns to uptake COVID vaccinations and linking newly arrived migrants/ international students to different support services as per their needs. GGNEC has been trying to reduce face to face activities as much as possible to spread safety in the community. They have been focusing mainly on online events/activities until the COVID situations becomes stable. Face to Face events are prioritised according to the nature of the activities, as for instance, COVID vaccine awareness campaigns/education, COVID relief activities etc. Details of GGNEC activities could be found in their Facebook page.
GGNEC, therefore, would like to request every Nepalese organisation in Victoria to come together and support this event. Please come and attend PAKO FESTA reimagined 2022, Saturday 26th February 2022, to make it successful event in our history. It’s not just for Nepalese, it’s for everyone to participate, to know others culture and traditions. This year’s Pako Festa will be held at Diversitat Northern Community Hub.
