Pahachare, Bishka Jatra and Janbahadyah Jatra Observed in Canada

Te Nepalese community in Edmonton, Canada recently observed Pahachare (Pasa Chare), Bishka (Bisket) Jatra and Janbahadyah (Seto Machindra Nath) Jatra amidst a virtual cultural event on Saturday April 24,2021.The cultural event was hosted by the Newa Cultural Society of Alberta (NCSA),a local organization to practice,promote and preserve Newa culture and traditions in Edmonton, Canada.

The cultural event was inaugurated by Dr.Hemanta Joshi,President of NCSA.Welcoming the guests and participants at the virtual cultural event,Dr.Joshi briefly highlighted on Pahachare,Bishka Jatra and Janbahadyah Jatra festivals.According to Dr. Joshi,NCSA has been observing major cultural festivals of Nepal annually in the community since 2013 to preserve and promote Newa culture and traditions in Edmonton.Mr.Dwarika Nath Shrestha,senior member of the community,delivered an interesting speech on Pahachare and Ghode Jatra festivals.Similarly,Mr.Tri Prasad Dhoubhadel talked about stories behind Bishka Jatra festival.

In the cultural event,You Tube video clips related to Pahachare,Bishka Jatra and Janbahadyah Jatra as well as Newa songs and Dhun prerecorded by the local artists for the cultural event were webcast via Webex app to commemorate these festivals.At the end of the cultural event,Dr.Keshab Shrestha,Cultural Coordinator and Advisor of NCSA,gave a vote of thanks to all the guests,artists and participants.The virtual cultural event was conducted by Mrs.Sunita Pradhan, Executive Member of NCSA.
