The Nepalese diaspora from both USA and Nepal came together virtually on the following evening of Dr Sukhdev Sir’s passing to pay homage to the departed soul.
Dr. Shah undoubtedly has been the most profound leader of the community with his original thoughts, convictions, relentless pursuits of his beliefs and someone who fearlessly and vocally projected and defended his opinions. He was an equally soft spoken and kind hearted spirit on a face to face interaction. An iconic figure like Sukhdev Sir deserves broader community and diaspora’s tributes for his legacy and his immense contributions and indelible impact to the community.
Yesterday’s virtual gathering was attended by the Hon’ble Ambassador Dr. Arjun Karki jee, Dr. Shyam Karki, Mr. Roger Adhikari, Mr. Kiran Sitoula, Dr. Arjun Banjade, Mrs. Annapurna Deo, Mr. Medini Adhikari, Mr. Parmendra Bhagat, Mr. Lalit Jha, Mr. Jay Nishant, Dr. Dharmendra Thakur, Mr. Rakesh Mishra, Dr. Rajan Pant, Dr. Chakardhar Mishra, Dr. Bijay K. Jha, Dr. Amit K. Jha, Mr. Bal Krishna Jha, Mr. Subhash Baitha, Mr. Amarendra Yadav, Mr. Binod Shah, Mr. Shyam Karki, Mukesh Karna, and many other community members.
The virtual gathering started with a minute of silence in Dr. Sukhdev Shah’s memory and then, Dr. Karki shared his memories with Dr. Shah. The grief stricken community shared their memories and various interactions they had with Dr. Shah. Being a weeknight in the US and early morning in Nepal did not affect the outpour of attendance and the larger community stayed online for more than two hours to listen to many experiences and anecdotes about Sukhdev Sir’s purposeful life and aura.
We would miss Dr. Shah’s towering personality and his demise has left an irreparable void in our community.
I would like to thank ANTA’s General Secretary, Mr. Dhiraj Chaudhary to conduct the meeting smoothly. I would also like to express my sincere gratitude towards the Executive Committee to attend the gathering.
Aprajita Jha President, ANTA
