This is a very difficult time. The virus COVID-19 had pretty much grounded our activities. There is not much we can do except taking all possible precautions, maintaining social distances, doing exercises (meditations and yoga etc.), eating healthy foods that can reinvigorate our immune system. I just want to share few information that might be helpful especially to the people who are at greater risk. First few factual information:
Friends, we live in an environment that is profoundly saturated with virus, bacteria and myriads of microorganisms that we can’t see with our naked eyes. These are everywhere in our environment (water, soil and air) and the foods that we eat. We grew up with these viruses and bacteria interacting with them in the ecosystem that we all live in. A large number of these microorganisms are very useful and indispensable for our own survival and well-being. For example, there are hundreds of billions of micro-flora in our stomach which break down foods we eat and release nutrients and energy which our body utilizes for growth, development and maintenance. We live in a reciprocally symbiotic relationship with these micro-flora.

some small number are harmful to us but through the interaction with them in the environment, our bodies have developed immune system against them. As we grow older, our immune system just like any other system starts weakening and debilitating. When our immune system is severely compromised, we become susceptible to bacterial and viral diseases. Naturally, older people’s immune system (compared to younger people) can’t effectively defend their bodies and they are always at greater risk of being infected resulting in higher mortality rate.
One liter of sea water has more than 100 billion viruses. When we sneeze, one sneeze produces nearly 20000 droplets in the surrounding area. These droplets contain virus particles that can hang in the air for some time. When other people breathe from that area, they naturally inhale virus particle. That is why COVID-19 can also be considered airborne. I am not the medical doctor but this is what I picked up from medical doctors’ discussion and it makes sense.
That is why COVID-19 can also be considered airborne.
The susceptibility to the virus in general depends primarily upon the following factors: Age, Genetics, Immune system, Nutrients and vitamins
We can’t help age. It is a natural process. It is reported that the mortality rate of COVID-19 is as follows: people over 80 years is 14 %, 70 years 8%, 60 years 3.6%, 50 years 1.3% 40 years .4% and 20 years .2%
Genetics is always there. Many human diseases have their origin in the genetic makeup of the individuals. Some biotechnological advances such as gene editing, gene transfer and modification can have significant impacts in the future but not now.
IMMUNE SYSTEM
If we can keep our immune system more or less in a proper condition, our bodies can defend against the invasion of most of the virus and bacteria. Immunization, exercise, nutrients and vitamins and our life-style can have a positive impacts on the maintenance of our immune system. Certain vitamins, mineral and antioxidants may have a positive impact on our immune system and can help overcome the debilitating effects of virus infection.
For example, high dose of vitamin C, Selenium, Zinc and vitamin D have been implicated to have a beneficial-effects to fight against cold influenza viruses and may help fight even COVID-19. There are reports that the infected patients in China have been given high dose of vitamin C. It is generally believed that Vitamins and antioxidants may boost our immune system.
My suggestion to all my friends particularly those who are 60+ years, take these vitamins and antioxidants every day on the top of green tea, garlic, ginger, curcumin, black pepper, cumin and many other herbal spices that we take every day in our food. There is nothing to loose by taking these supplements.
YOUR DETERMINATION AND POSITIVE THINKING COUNTS MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE. WISH YOU ALL THE BEST! STAY SAFE!
