Jewan Tiwari, President of the Nepalese American Forum for Political Empowerment (NAFPE), a Realtor and a Small Business Owner/CEO of Prime Estates Inc, and Arbina LLC has been appointed by Gov. Ralph Northam to serve on the Virginia Asian Advisory Board, which is charged with advising the governor on economic, professional, cultural, educational and governmental links between state government and the Asian American community.

“It’s an honor and a privilege to serve the commonwealth, especially the Asian American community of the Commonwealth,” Tiwari said. “We’ll continue to press forward and ensure that the government is given the best advice possible to create a stronger sense of inclusion in the governmental process of the Commonwealth of Virginia.”

The VAAB serves at the pleasure of Governor Ralph S. Northam and advises him on issues of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) interest so that his administration can best serve the AAPI constituents of Virginia.

The purpose of the VAAB shall be to advise the Governor on ways to improve economic and cultural links between the Commonwealth and Asian nations, with a focus on the areas of commerce and trade, art and education, and general government; as well as issues affecting the AAPI community in the Commonwealth.

The VAAB is directly authorized in the  Code of Virginia (§ 2.2-2448).

The Virginia Asian Advisory Board (VAAB) was created to recognize the importance of the contributions of the Asian American and Pacific Islander community in Virginia, to advise and inform the Governor on issues facing AAPI constituents and to advocate for the interests of the AAPI community.

AAPIs in Virginia are native-born U.S. citizens from all parts of the country, and foreign-born residents from all over the world. Virginia’s AAPI community represents a diversity of cultures and languages, unique needs and skills, countless contributions and endless potential for the Commonwealth.

The mission of the VAAB is to serve these Virginians who enrich our state and to call upon government officials, local communities, and all constituents to take part in the positive changes that are making Virginia an even better place to live.

According to the 2000 U.S. Census, the Asian community comprises approximately 3.7% of Virginia’s population vs 4.3% of the total U.S. population at the national level – about 12 million people. However, this number represents an increase of 63% from the 1990 census, making Asian Americans the fastest growing of all the major racial/ethnic groups in the U.S., in terms of percentage growth.

The VAAB Report annually its findings and recommendations to the Governor.  The board may make interim reports to the Governor, as it deems advisable.

Two other existing state boards, the Virginia Latino Advisory Board and the Virginia African American Advisory Board, also advise the Governor on issues affecting their communities in Virginia, including education, health equity, public safety and minority-owned businesses.

Tiwari is also past President of America Nepal Society 2012-2016 and actively engaged in community services. He is also a member of Virginia Association of Realtors and Local and national trade association. Jewan Tiwari migrated to the US from Nepal in 2004 and living in Northern Virginia since 2005.  Mr. Tiwari currently lives in Manassas, Prince William County with his spouse Himali Tiwari, 9 and 7 years old son and daughter Aadarsh Tiwari and Arbina Tiwari.
