A Thought on Cultural Preservation

It is amazing in the Washington Metropolitan suburban that the interest on Newah culture in youth has been a growing tremendously in the community since the last decade and the authority is pretty confident in mobilizing the youth in the forthcoming years. Although the youths have shown their activities in abroad in terms of their summer vacation and the other times in Nepal where they consistently kept interested in the culture parents have been told them while they are in home country about their inherited Newah tradition, festival on foods, music, traditional rituals, dance, language, culture and so on. We have reports from parents that they have accomplished the project work on a certain topic from their own interest or in the school project assignment. Besides this, youths while back to Nepal have perceived the breathtaking and thrilled scenic Himalayan terrain either from distance or mountain flights, people and their national dress, weather, shopping center, old carved temples and houses, government infrastructure development, the locals’ traditional life style, food they eat, the primitive way of living as compared to western fashion and so many they enjoyed while staying in Nepal.. They found excited to see all those observation while they are with parents or tourist guides. Interestingly, they are more inclined with the parents’ inherited culture they followed once they were back to Nepal long time ago. Although in the beginning they feel a sort of uncomfortable while gaining these primitive culture in Nepal. Some have specific target in collecting data that are to be set deliberately while presenting and defending in the classroom or may the other topics on essay writing. By visiting in Nepal they have multitasking phenomena while learning the culture from which parents inherited back to Nepal. This would also enable them a courage in presenting a short paper in an international forum or

create and build up the ability for the background knowledge while attending plenary session in the symposium. This is how a leadership feeling in youth develops in their age and would make proud to their parents culture.

A couple of times in the recent years although the attempts seem to be consistent the youths are being involved in Newah Guthis, Bhintunas, in traditional worship events and Yenya Punhi and have shown remarkably impressive participation along with other community members. In each event, they have been told the reason why these events are celebrated and organized in Nepal and abroad. A number of attempts have been made in school project to demonstrate why Newah culture is practiced in abroad and has been highly appreciated in the recent years. One of the obstacle we are lagging behind in terms of language speaking to children is the age group when they are keen and concentrated and parents are advised to pay attention to their children in the learning process in home. Many countries and literature have proved the 5-6 years age group is the best time children grasp quickly the language in the mind and the words spoken by parents at this age. Hence there is a need to focus this issue while making short film and other mode of dissemination process in the media. Besides this, kids should be encouraged to write up an essay competition on Newah culture, tradition , food dress songs, music and others in all Newah organization just to encourage and highlight its implication in the preservation process and promotion of Newah culture by youth in abroad. Practicing Newah food by

joint affords is another way of keeping intact with the culture in children. For massive participation in the Newah event, let kids voluntarily choose any interested theme and allow to play in the event along with other friends circle. If we go ahead this momentum in future, kids and youths could be engaged in participating and presenting a culturally related papers in local, regional, national and even international conference too. There are lots of venues need to be explored on how kids and youths are encouraged to promote Newah in future. Eventually this will enable them to encourage a leadership feeling in their succeeding career. Many visitors while touring in US urge our parents to involve our kids and youths in national and international arena for flourishing leadership trait in political process by which a substantial identity is recognized at higher level in order to sustain the ever identity and existence in future. In the recent decades this has been realized by wide majority of people. Moreover, attempts while conducting Newah culture events in intra and inter organizations should strictly be made viable and sustainable in future in order to avoid duplication and to save valuable earned resources, time factor and ultimately the evitable conflicts. This process enables us to maintain the harmony and solidarity in the community. A thrust should be made to encourage to youth for Newah culture preservation as they are the building block of our future and subsequently we will be enable to diminish the pace where Newah culture is in decaying trend and on the verge of extinction in the forthcoming era.
