On behalf of Madheshi Association in America (MAA), we would like to congratulate Dr. Rashmi Shah, a Research Technologist at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), who has received “NASA Early Career Public Achievement Medal” on October 29, 2019. Dr. Shah completed her PhD in Aeronautics and Astronautics from Purdue University in 2014, and she has been working at NASA’s JPL since then.

This prestigious NASA recognition is awarded to an employee for his/her unusual and significant performance during the first 10 years of an individual’s career in support of the NASA mission. Performance is characterized by unusual initiative or a creative achievement that clearly demonstrates a significant contribution in the individual’s discipline area that directly contributes to NASA’s mission and goals.

Dr. Rashmi Shah has received this prestigious award for her work in developing Signals of Opportunity mission concepts to measure soil moisture, wetlands, snow depth and sea surface properties.

MAA community members are proud of her significant achievement at such an early stage of her professional career. Madheshi women, who have often been stereotyped as shy and reticent in their homeland, are recently showcasing their skills and intelligence in Nepal and abroad as well. Dr. Rashmi Shah is inspirational for young talented women of Madheshi Community, and the larger Nepalese Diaspora.
