Press Release – 1st Global Nepali Health Conference

Dear Friends in the United States and beyond!

We recently concluded the historic 1st Global Nepali Health Conference & Health Festival held in Atlanta, and we would like to reflect back and express the highest appreciation to each and everyone who helped make the conference a grand success.

The conference was jointly organized by Global Health & Hygiene Committee of NRNA-ICC and NRNA-NCC-USA in collaboration with partners including Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, STAR Scholars Network, Society of American Nepali Nurses, Blood Donors of America, Nepali Cultural Center, Nepalese Association of Georgia, NRNA-Canada, Thomas Eye Group.

The conference was attended by several hundred participants who participated in the scientific session, panel discussion, sessions on youth health, women’s health, the safety of employees at high-risk occupations. Promulgation of Atlanta Declaration on Global Nepali Health is another major outcome of the conference that has signatories from numerous organizations and individuals who have direct and indirect stakes in the health of Nepali people whether they are living in or outside of Nepal.

Further, during the conference, over 100 people were screened for cholesterol and diabetes, up to 60 lives were saved by the blood donated by the generous donors at the blood drive, over 50 were tested for their vision, over 35 participants learned techniques of CPR & AED, hundreds gained health by Walk & Fun Run and Yoga session, and hundreds engaged in the networking, collaborations, partnership, information sharing.

Our invited guests from different parts of the world as well as different cities and states of the United States who included Nepal Deputy Prime Minister & Health & Population Minister Upendra Yadav, Honorable Johnny Crist among others have expressed their hearty appreciations for the warm hospitality they received from the Nepali community in the United States and Georgia.

We must acknowledge these volunteer colleagues who went above-and-beyond to make the conference meaningful and successful: Srijana Khatiwada Sharma, Surya Lamsal, Gobinda Shrestha, Netra P Pokhrel Bandhu, Manju Menaka Karki, Baburaja Maharjan, Dilip Kumar Baniya, Ganga Dhar Timilsina, Prakash Dhamala, Rupak Lamichhane, Sneha Chhetri Sapkota, Satya Chaudhary, Kumar KC, Damu Dongol, Dhananjay Mudbhary, Dr. Anup Srivastav, Girwan Pandey, Bishwa Man Angdembe, Santosh Yadav, Binod Ruwali, Abhiyan Bista, Bhabindra Basnet, as well as Vishrut ji, Arora ji and Ramesh ji from Vedic Temple.
