Pahachare, Janbahadyah Jatra, Biskha Jatra and World Newah Day Observed in Canada

The Nepalese community in Edmonton, Canada observed Pahachare, Janbahadyah (Seto Machindra Nath) Jatra, Biskha (Bisket) Jatra and World Newah Day amidst a cultural event at Lansdowne Community Hall on Saturday March 31, 2018. The cultural event was organized by the Newa Cultural Society of Alberta (NCSA), a local organization to practice, promote and preserve Newa cultural heritage in Edmonton, Canada.

Welcoming the guests and participants at the cultural event, Dr. Hemanta Joshi, President of NCSA, highlighted on the importance of observing Pahachare, Janbahadyah Jatra and Biskha Jatra to promote and preserve Newa cultural heritage in Edmonton, Canada for the current and future generations. Dr. Joshi also briefly spoke about the World Newah Organization and its recent decision to designate last Saturday of March every year as World Newah Day to celebrate and showcase Newah cultural heritage throughout the world. Mr. Tri Prasad Dhoubhadel, founding member of NCSA, also spoke about importance of Pahachare, Janbahadyah Jatra and Biskha Jatra.

The cultural event was inaugurated by Dr. Sharad Karmacharya, senior member of the NCSA. In the cultural event, deities such as Mahadev, Seto Machindra Nath, Bhairab, Bhadrakali and Ganesh were worshipped. Participants were entertained with a Newah song and cultural quizzes related to Pahachare, Janbahadyah Jatra, and Biskha Jatra festivals. At the end of the cultural event, Samay Bajee (an ethnic feast) was served to all the participants as divine blessings.
